We partnered with Informing Change to explore the possibilities and challenges associated with shared and distributed leadership, especially within nonprofit organizations. Inspired by research conducted for the Performing Arts Program at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, we are now working to better understand the intersection of racial equity and democratization within organizations once distributed leadership is undertaken. We are learning more about what attributes, practices and cultural norms accelerate more inclusive, equitable workplaces—where a genuine sense of belonging is experienced and realized.
